For Summer 24 we worked with Barcelona based artist and photographer, Cristian Bravo @la_melancolia. Cris is known for his mundane and creative vision of the world where everyday life and abstraction coexist in the same picture. Coming from a skateboarding background brings the spontaneity of the streets translated into an uncommon framing style that lives in both fashion and fine art world. As an artist-based brand, the do-it-yourself mentality is in our DNA. We believe in supporting young individuals who create, connect and take opportunities when they arise. Taze and his friends from baccyardboys recognised being surrounded by talented humans and wanted to grant them an opportunity to exhibit their hard work. With the OBEY Art Space as his playground, he fused together a pop up filled with a diverse group of talents; art, music and clothing. We were proud to see the work of Brandon Senders, Jet, Tresor and Michelle Bergwijn in the Art Space alongside clothing collections by Tears, Tears of Joy, Boulevard and Isak Douah.  Taze commenced the pop-up weekend with a wild opening party backed by many dj talents.   Napapijri and OBEY introduce the second chapter of their collaboration.Blending outdoor aesthetics, utility details, and contemporary streetwear, the capsule presents a collection of styles that are equally suited for the outdoors and urban living.The visual campaign considers the central graphic within the clothing collection, Earth Crisis by artist Shepard Fairey. It symbolizes a bitter-sweet reflection of the concept of crisis and the positive impact that can be achieved from collaborative action. The Beeman is a symbol representing the very real issue of endangered species. Playing with surreal imagery and with the notions of amazement and memorization, it also calls upon hive mentality - the collective consciousness that emerges when a group of individuals come together to share thoughts, ideas, and information. The collaboration is available now online and at fine retailers worldwide.

     

   For Spring 24 we worked with Adali Schell—a photographer from Los Angeles, California, whose work explores themes of community and togetherness within his upbringing in Southern California and family roots in rural Ohio. He's exhibited internationally at Rencontres d'Arles and Museum of Warsaw, and has published in The New York Times, the Atlantic, New York Magazine, Los Angeles Times and Wall Street Journal.  Over two years since first collaborating, OBEY Clothing and IAB Studio offer a new release. This second collaboration is an extension of the poster campaign that was plastered on the streets of cities worldwide in 2021. With the passing of time, the posters naturally deteriorated, revealing images that reflected the changing seasons. This collection references the weathered poster’s iconography. Through the spectrum of grey colors and varied material stories, we wanted to express the roughness and gritty mood in this collaboration.   Collection available exclusively at obeyclothing.com and OBEY flagship stores worldwide on Monday, February 12th⁠

Last week we celebrated the 'Noodzakelijk verdriet' album presentation and the Froukje x OBEY collection release.  We had a special evening in our OBEY Amsterdam store, when Froukje played a few songs from her new album ‘noodzakelijk verdriet’. Friends and family came to celebrate her new album and to check out the new album collection    The next day we officially opened the Froukje x OBEY pop up store. A lot of her fans came by to meet Froukje and to get their hands on  the new merchandise. We had a great morning and we thank you all for  coming by!   Gaijin Eyes is a multidisciplinary project bringing together the crafts of several creatives to present a book, an accompanying movie and a limited 1-of-1 capsule collection in collaboration with Obey Clothing. The Japanese word Gaijin translates to Foreigner or Outsider, with the exact translation being Alien. The eyes of an outsider show us a different perspective on Japan. A very personal, yet relatable sight. Gaijin Eyes is an introverted experience of an observer, us, witnessing and diving into the unfamiliar surroundings, being influenced by all the fleeting moments of stranger’s lives without directly taking part in it. Vincenz Gertoberens (born in 1994) has been making a name for himself – not only in Berlin’s fashion and art scene – but also internationally through a network of like-minded creatives from different parts of the world.Last year he first combined his powers with Obey Clothing by being one of the creatives behind the Obey x Healing Tales collab.This time Vincenz teamed up with Kiril Nagy (text, design and creative direction – @kirilschocolate), Olivia Waligóra (film editing – @lilemi2_), SMRL (sound design and music – @__smlr), Jonas Wolff (logo design – @jwwwolff) and Janice Esguerra (text editing – @mediumlondonfog).  For the release event of Gaijin Eyes, Berlin’s scene pulled up to witness all three layers of this project. Flipping through the pages of the book, directly diving into the images and literary text, watching the short movie, squeezed together in the gallery space, staring at the lights of Tokyo on the white walls,  and browsing through the unique longsleeves while meeting new people and chatting with the creators of this special project. On May 25th, OBEY organized a party at Les Vivres de l'Art in Bordeaux. We we’re joined by an impressive lineup of artists, including the talented rapper Romsii and his dj Sauvageon, the renowned rapper Rad Cartier, and the skilled dj, Urumi. Les Vivres de l'Art provided the perfect backdrop for this extraordinary event, with its industrial ambiance and immersive environment adding to the overall experience. The party was a testament to the vibrant music and art scene in Bordeaux, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. 

On May 12th was the opening party for Kurashi x Daan Koens at the OBEY Art Space in Amsterdam. It was a great evening full of art, culture and music. Kurashi started as a clothing brand inspired by artists such as Shepard Fairey and Parra, and has expanded into a collective exploring various mediums for art and self-expression. Kurashi’s most recent collaboration is with Daan Koens, a self-taught Rotterdam-based artist who is already becoming a well-established name in the new generation of Dutch/Caribbean artists. Koens draws inspiration from the tropical landscapes of his childhood home in Curaçao. Over time, he has cultivated a unique style ranging from realistic self-portraits to cubist impressions.  Music and the exploration of sound is one of the integral parts of the Kurashi Collective. The musical chapter, Kurashi Soundsystem, was born during their very first event. Their selectors travel through a broad spectrum of sounds, ranging from Bubbling, Baile Funk, Jungle, Dembow, Reggae, to Hip-Hop. Kurashi translates to courage in Papiamentu, the language of the ABC-islands. For the Kurashi Collective the word is about being courageous and outspoken about one’s identity. For more info check Kurashi Collective and Daan Koens Pictures by Lex van der MolenVideo by Amaar Landbrug

   

On March 25th, Obey Art Space Berlin hosted the opening for GHOSTS, the newest exhibition by Berlin-based artist Mona Sardari. Sardari is a German illustrator, born in 1992, she has been practicing art most of her life.After graduating from Freie Kunstwerkstatt Munich, she studied communication design and went on to teach illustration at the IFOG Academy Munich as a lecturer before moving to Berlin in 2021. Throughout her career, she has worked with the likes of Adidas for their Girls are Awesome project, Dimanche London, Form of Interest, Tint Store and SHRN. The works featured in GHOSTS deal with the artist’s years of suffering from insomnia. Her black and white illustrations invite the onlooker into the feeling of sleeplessness and the moments of awakening in the middle of the night. This exploration into the hypnagogic state, experienced as the foggy realm between wakefulness and sleep, is the main inspiration of her designs.
