Monster Children Mike D Release Party
Wednesday night, the cooly clad crowds descended upon Red Hook, Brooklyn to celebrate the launch of Monster Children‘s 43rd issue guest edited by the inimitable curator of culture, Mike D from the Beastie Boys. The festivities were held at Dustin Yellin’s Pioneer Works Center for Arts and Innovation, a reclaimed iron works factory that now serves as an exhibition, education and studio space for like-minded artists. In other words, the perfect setting to celebrate a magazine that easily synthesizes such seemingly disparate disciplines as surfing, hip hop, art and all things fun, into one cohesive, creative vision. Guests got down on the dance floor to old school hip hop spun by D’nice before getting rowdy later on to the tunes of A-Trak. For those parched from partying too hard, drinks from Saint Archer, Jameson, Loca Linda and Boxed Water stood at the ready all night long. And don’t think Monster Children would forget about those struck with a late night case of the munchies! Tacos and pizza slices were plentiful, guaranteeing party-goers spirits stayed high and the merrymaking rolled on through the night, right up until it was time for everyone to get out and go home. ~ Emily Kirkpatrick.
