Emerging Artist of the week: Villain Park

Move aside Drake and Meek Mill. 90’s hip hop is back.. and it’s so good.

Earlier this year I stumbled upon a young up and coming crew from Los Angeles that absolutely blew my mind. Channeling the likes of Masta Ace, Gangstarr, and even early Cypress Hill, this hip hop crew had me hooked instantly throwing on repeat after the first listen with their head bobbing rhythmic flows and nostalgic beat production. Their style of true hip hop consisting of break beats, 808 kicks, scratching, and bars to match is spot on brilliant. That crew is LA’s own, Villain Park.

The California bred group composed of Smokey V, Classicko, Niftee, & kilaM all grew up together on the streets of West LA. Though they are still new to the scene they have already made some impact throughout the year at local underground shows like Bananas in Leimert Park, sold out shows at The Roxy in Los Angeles, The Glass House in Pomona, & a grip of others. They’re currently wrapping up their first recording project titled ” Same Ol Shit ” and plan to announce the release date later this month. (Rumor has it the release party’s in Hollywood)
