Beach Goth Recap
If you are a Californian who enjoys cool music, then there’s a good chance you know what’s Beach Goth. The term “Beach Goth” refers to a young breed of SoCal cool kids who thrive on the sunny good times of the Golden State but also dwell in the darker, more weirder vibes. Now imagine roughly 10,000 of these “beachgoths” packed into one Best Buy sized parking lot with very little “chill” space, an overwhelming smell of hot dogs, elotes, and beer and some of the most bizarre and unique costumes you can imagine.. then put together some of the raddest, loudest, gnarliest musical artists in past and modern music on incredible stages that look like a bad mushroom trip at Disneyland and you have yourself a pretty insane festival called Beach Goth.
Now in its fourth year running, this ghoulish annual music festival has become more than just a fun event put on by OC band The Growlers, it’s now a full on “drug trip gone wrong” experience. With over 50 bands from all sorts of genres and eras performing over the weekend at Santa Ana’s Observatory Grounds, Beach Goth had the weirdest and most unique lineup of any festival its size this year. Featuring artists like Wanda Jackson, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Julian Casablancas, Die Antwoord, The Aquabats, Grimes, Juicy J and Parliament Funkadelic just to name a few, this year’s Beach Goth was packed full of freaks, outcasts, and misfits dying to lose their minds to their favorite artists. Can’t say I didn’t lose my shit to Eagles of Death Metal. Their set was insane. Check out the best pics we caught this past weekend:
