OBEY x ReBlend x Makers Unite

We are introducing an innovative collaboration between ReBlend, the Municipality of Groningen, and Makers Unite, to create denim entirely from recycled cotton. By combining 50% post-consumer jeans from Groningen, mechanically recycled in France, with 50% rejuvenated pre-consumer cotton waste from Belgium, we’ve have succeeded to make a revolutionary circular yarn. This yarn is transformed into denim in Italy using the eco-friendly Smartindigo process and crafted into contemporary OBEY designs in Amsterdam.

 Partnering with ReBlend and Makers Unite, we have created a local loop by reusing textiles and repurposing materials previously considered waste, into raw materials for new textiles and products. This pioneering initiative transforms textile waste into contemporary, eco-friendly designs, made from 100% recycled cotton denim. Normally, recycled materials always need polyester for stability and strength, but this innovative method achieves the same results using 100% cotton, setting a new standard in the recycling process.

The project came to be after OBEY was left with a production batch of damaged goods, which felt like a big waste of material to just disregard. OBEY is now offering two of its classic styles, Easy Denim Pant and Easy Shirt Jacket, for its initial release with ReBlend. Featuring a light blue screen printed Icon Face labeling on raw 12oz denim. Available exclusively online and at OBEY Paris and OBEY Amsterdam flagship stores.
