Bad Brains x OBEY at Subliminal Projects

Saturday we launched our collaboration with the legendary band Bad Brains. To kick things off right we decided to host an art show in addition to music in the back featuring Trash Talk and a Bad Brains super group. Here’s what Shepard had to say about it.

“I’m still catching my breath from a weekend of punk rock intensity. I did the Slash Magazine book art show Friday, the Johnny Ramone Tribute last night, but the A-Bomb of punk rock music and art was Banned in Babylon: The Art and Culture of Bad Brains, the art and music shindig at Subliminal Projects on Saturday night. I’ve been a Bad Brains fan for 30 plus years and lucky to work with them on a few projects but nothing like what we were able to put together between Obey Clothing and an incredible group of artists and musicians for an indoor – outdoor feast of Bad Brains. The indoor art included my work, Darryl Jenifer, photographers Lucian Perkins, Jeannie “Aunt Jean” Pawlowski, and John Mousheghian. And our makeshift music venue in the parking lot showcased Trash Talk, the cream of the crop of the current generation of hardcore, and a supergroup playing Bad Brains songs consisting of Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains, Peter Stahl of Scream, Chuck Treece of McRad, Moby and secret guest Dave Grohl of Scream and a couple lesser known bands Nirvana and the Foo Fighters.

The energy was out of control, we almost got shut down by the fire marshal but I had the time of my life and was reminded why this music and its spirit means so much to so many people, including me. ”

Couple legends out. Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols and John Doe from X.

Fucktard and Josh from The Shrine getting ready for the magic.

Daryl, Chuck and Atiba reviewing the set list.

Got so crazy, kids were bum rushing the neighbors yard to check the show. Thankfully they were cool neighbors.

Trash Talk lit shit up! Brought the crazy energy that almost got the party shut down… but not quite. Lee knows how to walk the line.

Nuge knows what’s up.

Who knew Moby shredded so hard? He kept saying, “this is like me getting to play with the Beatles!” Solid energy.

Dave Grohl played guitar on a bunch of songs but did one on drums.

The youth are getting restless. Sawyer T. not impressed with how his dad likes to party.

I don’t even know what to call this group but shout out to Darryl Jenifer and Bad Brains for being prolific enough to be able to inspire such a diverse group to be on stage together. From left to right: Dave Grohl, Pete Stahl, Chuck Treece, Darryl Jenifer, Shepard Fairey, and Moby.
