Nadie x Slimfit

On September 1st we celebrated the release of the Nadie x OBEY Collection and exhibition in the OBEY Art Space in Amsterdam. 

Known for her hand dyed knitwear and tuff tapestries, Nadie has begun exploring the connections within her art of various mediums. Her tapestries are inspired by a deep-rooted love for nature. When you look at her work you can see forests, leaves and floral patterns, sometimes depicting a lake that reflects the stars in the sky. Flower patterns are a recurring motif in Nadie's work, they appear on her clothing, tapestries, prints and recently also in her drawings.

For her opening event, Nadie collected songs that she listened to while making her art. With this playlist she contacted her friend Sammie to work her magic with these songs.

Sammie Tjon Sien Foek, also known as 'Slimfit,' is a multidisciplinary artist residing in Amsterdam with Chinese, Surinamese, and Dutch roots. They are a Master's student at the Sandberg Institute. Their practice focuses on community building, artistic and philosophical research, sonic performance, and (moving) digital imagery. In their club-related DJ sets, they seamlessly blend different genres into a collage of resonating and energetic sounds, ranging from rhythmic hard drum to emotional techno and hardcore, and from post-club and GQOM to contemporary reggaeton and Neo Perreo."

In collaboration with their friend and fellow artist Mila V, they operate the music platform 'Alternative Planet Fm.' Through this platform, they organize events featuring live acts and DJ sets and host a monthly radio show where they invite FLINTA artists to discuss their practice.

For this OBEY Records release, Sammie has crafted a more ethereal and nostalgic mix, incorporating ambient, droney, and experimental sounds that translate the organic, colorful, flower-like and playfully mysterious lifeworld of Borgreve’s artworks. The mixtape symbolizes a walk through an unknown forest and reflects an ongoing feeling of almost childlike intrigue and fascination with nature's marvelous transformative and creative qualities. In addition to the curated tracks, Sammie has also included some of their own productions, vocals and poetry inspired by this very special forest walk.

On October 20th, we’re opening the OBEY x Nadie exhibition in the OBEY Art Space om Berlin. During this evening you can listen to Slimfit’s mixtape as well.
