Esteban Adame

Ep. 78

Esteban Adame is a multi-faceted musician who wears many hats. A pianist and composer, and DJ who emerged from the vibrant Chicano/Latino rave scene of East Los Angeles in the 1990s.

His musical journey began at a young age, with DJing igniting his passion at just 15. This early exposure to electronic music would later intertwine with his formal training.

Adame's talent caught the attention of legendary producer "Mad" Mike Banks of Underground Resistance. Recognizing a kindred spirit, Banks invited Adame to join the Detroit-based collective in 2004. This move not only expanded Adame's horizons but also led him to contribute his piano skills to the label's electronic jazz band, Galaxy 2 Galaxy.

Never one to be confined to a single genre, Adame co-founded the Ican label in 2006 with Santiago Salazar. This platform provided an outlet for his own productions and collaborations with artists like Nomadico (with whom he formed El Coyote) and DJ 3000.

Adame's creative spirit extends beyond established genres. He explores the experimental and darker side of his musicality through his Frequencia project.

In 2022, Adame formed a new quartet, a testament to his ever-evolving artistry. This group, featuring renowned musicians like Raul Pineda, Frank Fontaine, Edwin Livingston, and Joey De Leon, allows him to explore his love for free improvisation alongside his deep connection to the Afro-Latin American musical diaspora. Through this ensemble, Adame strives to create a unifying and spiritual experience for his audience.
