Be Magnificent: Walthamstow School of Art

Be Magnificent is an exhibition featuring some of the famous talents to come out of Walthamstow School of Art between 1957-1967. Never before seen sketches by Ian Dury (the punk legend) during his time at Walthamstow School of Art. During Ian’s time the painter Peter Blake taught at the arts school. He had a huge influence on Ian aswell as having an impact on the arts, he was described as the ‘British Andy Warhol’. It was incredibly exciting to see Peter’s ‘Self Portrait With Badges’ in real life and to see Ian’s sketches. It really was great to see so much work in one room that has had such a big impact on culture. It was fantastic to see the actual piece of work that inspired Dury to write his song ‘Hit Me With Your Rythm Stick’. Definitely go to this exhibition to experience such an important part of culture and history!

The exhibition is in the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, London.
