Last week, I traveled out to the Bowery Hotel in NYC to attend the launch party for our artist series collaboration launch party with Blanda. In summary, there was great music, great people and a great time...a big thanks to BLANDA and to all the people that came out in support!

We're very excited to launch our fall artist series with Blanda Eggenschwiller, a New York City based graphic designer and illustrator. Born and raised in Zurich, Switzerland her style combines collage, printmaking and drawing into a singular expression of feminine form. She draws inspiration from a variety of influences, such as Julie Verhoeven, Tibor Kalman, James Victore, Louise Fili and Martin Kippenberger. Her work merges these inspirations with her Swiss background and the visual stimulation of her daily life in New York City. She currently works as an art director at The New York Times.
The collection features three t-shirt graphics and three jewelry pieces. Blanda describes the inspiration for the collection as, "A collage-based approach to encapsulating the female figure through form (photorealistic images) and content (newspaper article that speak to the femininity of my subject matter). I like the work to reflect the visual hodgepodge of New York City itself, to make sense out of something that is non-sensical. I was playing with opposites and contradiction, the duality between things like politics and fashion, order and chaos, reality and fantasy".

I just learned about the Levi's workshop in San Francisco. It could be well worth a trip to San Fran. It's open to the public on Sundays and they have free printing workshops. They also have product for sale and the proceeds go to local charities. Amazing!

It's finally here, the OBEY + CATBREATH collaboration. We worked with NYC based designer, Abby Moriarty of www.breathofthecat.com to create a limited edition capsule collection based on the marriage between the street sensibility of OBEY and Abby’s trademark handsome, smart and chic knitwear design style.

Last week I took a quick trip to NYC to do a press preview for our summer 10 line, it was a bit chilly compared to our warm fall southern california weather but ate good food, saw lots of editors and was overall a fun time.
We stayed at the ACE, a young hipster hotel which you might remember Stella stayed at the one in Palm Springs. The hotel was a mix of modern with vintage with unique hotel amenities and services such as turntables and vinyl, Smeg refrigerators, Rudy's Barbershop and The Breslin restaurant . My favorite hotel amenity by far was Stumptown Coffee, an independent coffee roaster based in Portland, Oregon (also the origin of the ACE hotels) whose owners have spent lots of time visiting coffee farms in person and pay high prices for coffee they deem worthy -- occasionally three or four times fair trade prices, they've once set the record for highest price ever paid for coffee beans and definitely shows since it's hands down the best coffee I've ever had...
I also met up with Nick our east coast rep and one of our favorite NYC accounts Dave from BLADES.

Last night I made the drive out to Pomona to see one of my favorite Swedish lady - Fever Ray (formerly of The Knife). The show was AMAZING. The perfect storm of fog, eerie creep voices, lasers, dusty vintage lamps, and hairy beast hoods. Karin Dreijer Andersson's voice is eerie and beautiful and her band makes amazing sounds with drum machines, drums, keyboards and guitars. Fever Ray is truly doing her own thing and the creativity of the band is so inspiring. Tonight they are playing at the Henry Fonda Theatre- the show is sold out- but get onto Craigslist today and do whatever you can to get a ticket!! You won't be sorry!
