• HE BEE ADAM N HE BEE BILL

OBEY Clothing's C.F.izzO. and new baby daddy, Adam Van B not only loves his 200 button calculator with the extra wide paper roll dispenser, he loves nature. With the recent Bee Hive discovery at the new office, he pounced (like a kitty kaat) on the opportunity to safely remove them off the property and use them for this weekend's bee meat bbq extravaganza.

The man with the plan, master beekeeper Bill Walter oversaw the operation and was kind enough to let Adam get an assist on the rescue.  If you have bees ditch the exterminator and give this guy a call, he will properly rescue and relocate them to a safe area.  Or better yet adopt a hive and put them in your backyard if you have the room.  Check out his full range of bee related services at www.guerillabeekeepers.com or contact him at 949-939-3296 orbill@guerillabeekeepers.com

  • Haight Street Posse

My good friend Mike Kershnar sent over a great photo of a new coyote face he painted in San Francisco. It's located at 1673 Haight Street, a couple blocks down from Amoeba Music. If you are in the area you should stop by and check it out.

  • GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR REUNION

For those that don’t know Godspeed You Black Emperor is a musical tour de force of “post-rock” instrumentation. The style and grace in which they build up and tear down beautifully woven soundscapes is unparalleled. They reunited to curate the All Tomorrows Parties In Minefield England this last December, and announced tour dates for North America. Well we here in Southern California are lucky enough to graced by their presence this evening 2-22 at the FOX Theater in Pomona at 9pm . They are playing with OM who are no slouches either…this show is destined to be nothing short of memorable for all whom attend. To say I’m excited for this…is an understatement…I’ll see you tonight…and much thanks to Lesley Olenik and FOX Theater for making all this happen…we all owe you a thank you for bringing this to us.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor-Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven

    Update to follow…

  • OBEY Radio For Kool Herc

(From MTV.com) "DJ Kool Herc, the father of Hip-Hop, is in need of surgery and is seeking financial help due to a lack of health insurance. DJ Premier announced Herc’s hospitalization and financial woes on his Live From HeadQcourterz SIRIUS satellite radio show this weekend and the news quickly spread via Twitter, Hip-Hop sites and blogs.

Herc, born Clive Campbell, came to prominence in the late 70’s DJ’ing parties throughout the South Bronx. Herc’s deep crates and eclectic mix of records (Funk, Latin, Jazz, etc.) are credited for sparking what we know as Hip-Hop today. Taking two of the same record, Herc would isolate and extend popular segments of recordings, which became known as “breaks.” A party he threw for his sister Cindy Campbell on August 11, 1973 at 1520 Sedgwick Ave in the Bronx is credited as the day Hip-Hop was born.

Along with Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa, the trio is considered the creators of Hip-Hop music and culture. However, unlike his two aforementioned peers, Herc never went on to record music as an artist. In 1977, Herc was stabbed at a party and fell back from the Hip-Hop scene. In ensuing years he also developed a drub habit.

In more recent years, a drug free Herc has rekindled his presence—he’s a fixture at major Hip-Hop shows in NYC—but unfortunately, unlike the millionaires that Hip-Hop has spawned, he never reaped the financial rewards of his creation. Though plenty of artists pay homage to Herc, props don’t pay medical bills."

This Friday at OBEY Radio, we present a bit of Hip Hop history, paying homage to the culture that helped build where we're at today. All proceeds from the night go to Kool Herc, and we'd love to have you guys come thru to eat, drink and dance for a good cause.

We will have a Donation box on stage and proceeds from the night will go directly to:

  • Stefan Glerum's High Rollers Only

Aside from the fact that my dear friend Stefan Glerum is always trying to hook up with my girlfriends, he is also a really talented artist. And last weekend was the opening of his new show; High Rollers Only. Now don't let his looks fool you, he actually does make really nice stuff.

There are a lot of really nice new prints, but also original works. Of course none of them compare to my personal favorite.

  • Metal Out!

February is officially metal month for me. Started with Lemmy of Motörhead's documentary. Saw it last Saturday and they really don't make musicians like they use to. Lemmy is truly inspirational.

Rent it! Buy it! Watch it!

Following are some the bands I saw or will be seeing this month...

Cradle of Filth is a band I've listened to since college.  They are an extreme/black metal band from UK.

Turisas is a Finland Viking Metal band and one of my favorites. Epic!

Finntroll, a Folk/Black Metal band from Finland.

Eluveitie from Switzerland. They combine Celtic folk melodies with melodic death metal.  Eluveitie also uses many of the traditional folk instruments such as fiddles, tin whistles, flutes, bagpipes, and hurdy gurdies.

Nachtmystium was a total surprise for me. I couldn't believe they are from Chicago..American? They blew me away.  I can hear Burzum in their blood.

    Rock on
