• MIRF

The NY fellows Mint and Serf, sometimes known as Mirf, just sent over some Obey posters they did up. They first did this take for their Special Graffiti Unit show late last year. Stay tuned for an update on this real soon.

  • ICH BIN EIN OBEYER

Last week was tradeshow week for us Europians. All the main tradeshows were taking place in Berlin. We found ourselves at the Bright show, which had last summer moved from Frankfurt to Berlin. In Frankfurt the show was held in an old police station and to keep the tradition going in Berlin they took over the old Stasi headquarters. If you haven't heard about the Stasi, let me tell you they weren't the friendliest bunch. Anyway OBEY was present all thanks to the OBEY Germany team. Super gemacht Freunden!

Roams and Steve T. were setting up the installation. Or let's just say Steve T. did all the work.

No matter how hard we tried to make it all look good. We couldn't outdo the guys over at the HUF/Skate Mental Booth.

OBEY Germany chief Cem might look tough, but he's a real sweetheart.

My good friends Rufus Exton is the official Bright photographer, at least that's what he tells me.

Thanks to the Very Special Ben-G crew, the HUF dirtbag crew and the Skate Mental retard crew for letting me crash at the appartment.

It was someone's birthday too, but he didn't want everyone to know. All I can say he has been a pro skater for nearly 20 years, he has an apparel and footwear brand and a store on Fairfax.

Randomly ran into J. Christ at a gas station off the autobahn.

    Steve T. couldn't believe it.

Thanks to everyone that came by. And for the people who didn't, you missed out.

  • OBEY at 'DA PLAYGROUND'

So a couple months ago I had a amazing opportunity to paste up Stevie William's private under ground skate park.  The spot is called 'Da Playground' It is a super secret park that only a select few have seen.  Big thank you to Stevie and Spencer for making this happen and allowing me to make a mess in the park.  I also want to thank The Kelly's out in the ATL.  Pete, Yves and Ashley helped slap up some paste and posters.

  • THE PARTY AIN'T OVER

It's a rare chance to get to see a "living legend" in the flesh, much less rockin' out on a stage showin' you who's boss.  However, there is one lady out there doing just that. Wanda Jackson, "Queen of Rockabilly," has teamed up with Jack White of the White Stripes to remind us that "The Party Ain't Over," as her aptly-titled, recent release has just hit shelves. The 74-year old, fringe-cloaked songbird ain't skippin a beat as she embarks on a US tour. Shows are limited but if you can make it to one, you will not be disappointed. I am lucky to have scooped up a ticket to tonight's show at El Rey theater after last night's show was quickly sold out.   My NY-based,photographer brother, Eric Van't Zelfden (aka Lobo Jones) beat me to the punch and already checked out her show at The Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY.  With a photo pass in hand he captured some amazing shots of the evening.  Mad props to big bro! :)  Please do check out his site or shoot him an e-mail if you like what ya see. • Brooklyn Projects Melrose

Was showing the new fall goods to Dom over at Brooklyn Projects new location on Melrose last week and rolled up on Chad Fernandez shredding the mini out back. Chad was rocking a grimey glow in the dark tee, stoked. If you are in the neighborhood pop in and check out the new digs.

  • ZZYZX????

If anyone has ever driven out to Vegas on the 15 you have driven by Zzyzx road and probably have just written it off as as weird name for a road. A month or so ago I was riding dirtbikes with some friends in the middle of the mojave and randomly came up on an abandoned resort oasis that had been active in the 40's all the way up till the 70's. The spot is called Zzyzx Mineral Springs and Health Resort. Super good read on the whole thing here: abandoned but not forgotten / digital desert

Took a few photos of this place but if you are ever rolling to vegas on the 15, pull off and check it, weird stuff for sure happened here back in the day.

  • Kutmah's Two Soups & A Honeybun.

    Kutmah-credit-Theo-Jemison

Since Cinco de Mayo 2010, my good mate Kutmah had his life turned upside down, deported from the States and sent back to his born country, Britain. Between the transition of being forced out of his life in LA and set free in the UK, he'd been stuck in a New Mexico prison for almost two months. Within these two months, we could only imagine who and what he had to deal with behind bars.

    IMG_4303

I had a chance to catch up with him in Manchester, a few weeks after he was released in July 2010. The stories he had were classic, he was so upbeat about everything and his presence definitely took me back to the good old days. One thing he showed me, which I was even more thrown back were these intricate drawings he had made with copy paper, his prison I.D., and a pencil which he had to sharpen with a razor blade. He ended up doing 36 total pieces, all detailed in their own style and different from the Kutmah-esque art he's released in the past.

    IMG_4301

I was lucky to be able to see these, fresh from the deportation envelope... and January 20th, the UK will get a little taste of LA brought to you by Kootie J. Instead of me yapping (because I could go on for about another 30 seconds), there's a great interview on the Earnest Endeavor site as well as the Exhibit and Afterparty information. Go have a look-see and if you're in the area, please support! For those of you that can't make it, dates for Los Angeles and Tokyo will be announced soon.
