  • RADIANT CHILD

My studio, Studio Number One designed the credits and I made the painting for the poster for the Basquiat documentary film by Tamra Davis THE RADIANT CHILD. The film is excellent, great interviews, art images, and music. I think this is the definitive Basquiat doc. It is playing at the NUART in LA and wider distribution depends on the LA attendance. Please support.

OBEY has teamed up with The Surfrider Foundation for our newest OBEY Awareness project. Shepard created the Jaws wave fine art piece for the 25th Anniversary of Surfrider. In order to contribute more support we decided to create a shirt out of the design. 100% of the profits will be donated to The Surfrider Foundation to help protect our oceans. • OUTSIDE LANDS

This past weekend held one of the more extravagant festivals known to music and we were able to experience the brilliance. Outside Lands Music Festival, held within San Francisco’s majestically beautiful Golden Gate Park displayed an array of phenomenal music and delectable food from all around the Bay. This year’s line up demonstrated a variety of musical talents; including The Strokes, Damien Marley & Nas, Cat Power, Social Distortion, Phoenix, Al Green, and The Grateful Dead’s spinoff band Further just to name a few. It was a bit smaller then past years with only four stages, as opposed to six or seven.

    1

The twenty-minute walk back to the city from Polo Field to our car was very soothing. The cool SF air grazing our checks while we strolled through the park was amazing.

    2
    3

There is definitely something magical about being surrounded by nature and trees while listening to some of my favorite music. It’s as if the festival was held in a small section of a forest and there is no contact to the outside world.

    4

The crowd itself was not overbearingly huge, but the people that we had the pleasure of encountering were completely fascinating.

    5
    6

The large rusted metal flower sculptures that sat in the in the fields were mind-blowingly beautiful.

    7
    8

Outside Lands was the perfect mix of great food and amazing music. They did a fantastic job of incorporating very well known bands with some very unlikely artists. See ya again next year!!!

  • NOWHERE MAN

Yesterday we took a 9 mile roundtrip trek through the San Gabriel Mountains to find the Bridge to Nowhere. It was built in 1936 but abandoned 2 years later when a flood washed out all of the roads. Now the gorge is occupied by gold prospectors and bungee jumpers. I almost lost my foothold a couple times during the river crossings, but I managed to make it out with a dry camera. Here are some pics from the journey.

  • Leopards Running Wild!

For Fall this season the women's line did a collaboration with Jennifer the Leopard (aka JLEP). Who's this Jennifer the Leopard you might be asking? She's a 6'9" Olympic curler from Idaho. Just kidding. JLEP is an LA based perfomance-art inspired punk collective. The group is comprised of four media-makers who use music, film and animation in their performances and turn out some pretty crazy stuff.

Click on the pic below to read an article from LARecord about JLEP.

Each shirt represents a different member of the group with the look and feel of your favorite old band shirt. Go check the JLEP gear HERE.

  • the world in our backyard

I spent some time away from the office and took a trip up to Big Sur to realign my chakras.  With one pair of clothes, some good company, and a bag of fungi, I ventured out into the redwood forest for 4 days.  Here are some shots I documented throughout the trip.
