  • Fela Kuti Live Right Before Your Eyes

Killer clip from ex-Cream drummer Ginger Baker's Ginger Baker in Africa documentary of Afrobeat originator Fela Kuti on a tiny dancefloor in the Nigerian city of Calabar. This is from really early in Fela's career and is basically about as heavy as footage of James Brown playing somebody's bedroom in 1956... or like footage of this... or like footage of a Mars landing in 1962... and since I couldn't be there in person for any of the above, I feel lucky just to get to watch the tape!

Our dudes over at Studio Number One (Shepard's design studio) did the titling for the new Basquiat movie. Rather than a hip hop feel as originally directed, they focused on a jazz feel. I really like what they did. Can't wait to see the whole film.

  • 100K

About a month back we headed out to Colorado for the Zumiez 100K. Shep did an install out there during the day while I watched him and scratched my ass. He's a little piece Zumiez put together on the piece. Peace!

  • Better late than never

What can I say, I'm late on this post but haven't been around much lately so here it is, finally. Last weekend was a busy one.

The THISLOSANGELES gallery opened and it was a mob scene.

    The kids were enjoying themselves.

The legendary Justin VanHoy (The Dutch Press) and Matt Goldman (Danceright / MFG)

Later that night we rolled over to the Two Headed Horse space to check out Mike V. play Black Flag songs and Shepard was playing records. Really fun time to be had with a great crowd.

The merch booth compliments of Jason Filipow.

    Shep and Jason.

Mike V getting the legendary Duane Peters on the mic to do a few tunes.

Vallely getting going as Laban films it all

The Inspiration Vintage Show was going on at the Santa Monica Airport Hangers on Saturday. Rin Tanaka put this together and as usual he put together something very special.

Yeah this was a weekend with alot going on. Sunday was out to the Rosebowl for the monthly mission.

Joel K from Kazuo and his posse.

  • American Rag x Obey party

We did a little pop up shop over at American Rag on La Brea in LA last night. Really fun event and here's a couple pictures. Some highlights were seeing one of the dudes from Super Troopers and the dudes from The Wire hanging out together. I think I played myself real bad to get the picture but it was definitely worth it.

Thanks to Pabst everyone stayed hydrated.

Thanks to Pabst I got new slip mats.

    3

I've been teaching my nephew Sawyer how to DJ at home, so we had to test his skills on the road.

Definitely looking a little foolish, but at least I got a pic with Cutty and Marlo.

Hope you enjoy a few pics from Clarion Alley in SF. You may never see the same murals twice here, as they change all the time. Local artists letting their imagination run wild creates all these amazing murals. Check it out and support the arts.

  • Parties Past and Parties future

We're doing a little Pop Up Shop at American Rag in LA on Thursday evening. If you live in LA come on by. I'll be playing records that no one want to hear but me...(just kidding) Also, if you swing through make sure to say what's up. Giveaways, free cupcakes and free beer, it really doesn't get better than that my friends.

This past weekend I probably partied more than my body wanted me too but there was lots of great stuff going on. Friday night Da Hardy Boyz were at the Crosby for Obey Radio. I'll make sure Furlong posts some pics of that. Saturday night the fellas TK Disko and Even Ian had Eric Duncan (Rub & Tug Still Going / COMBI) at their party Hot Biscuit. This party is perfect for someone like me. Good outdoor area to chill and good dance floor inside. What can I say, I had a great time. Here's a couple photos from the night below.
