  • TONIGHT: JENNIFER THE LEOPARD

Tonight I headed out to the REDCAT to see J Lep - our friends Marissa Mayer, Stephanie Hutin, Lana Kim and Lauren Fisher's performance art inspired punk collective.  They all have backgrounds in animation, and filmmaking and combined with their stellar music talents they put together one hell of a show!  Lucky for you all they will be playing Friday night and Saturday night.  The show starts at 8:30 and the first act is an interesting, intense dance/video performance.

Check out the write up by the LA Times:

  • WARTIME STENCIL

I received an e-mail recently from a good friend that is stationed in Iraq, he has been hot on the trail of a soldier that has been leaving a series of OBEY stencils on various pieces of equipment near his home base. He recently came across a freshie and caught up with the man holding the spray can......Stay safe my friends and thanks for support!

  • We're gonna have a tie dye party tonight! Alright!

I'm tired of lousy bars and spending money.  Weekends from here on out are going to be comprised of the following:  pool, coffee, white wine with ice, kittens and cats, nail painting, grilling, Little Steven's Underground Garage, True Blood and CRAFTS!  Steve, Donna and I started the summer crafting with tie dying yesterday.

I thought I knew a lot about how to tie dye but this weekend really opened my eyes.  We learned how to do the electric bunch and the twist dye.  Donna got really good at the two way stripe.

It's not just for hippies anymore!

Steve won the prize for best shirt.

  • SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW........

This week has been all about the AGENDA trade show and some realization on my part..... Everything in life comes back around and we are definitely going to be seeing this come true in the seasons to come. For some reason I am just really feeling like there are exciting times ahead for all of us in this cloth game. Stay tuned and enjoy the transition my friends.

  • the fackin' keeeids, mang!

    Oi Mr. Oizo...

Real quick, not to bug your everyday goings awn, but here's something that definitely hits close to home. This Friday, we're hosting a benefit for the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Along with other organizations throughout the US, CHOC's been there for our future... the keeeeids! Not to get sentimental on y'all homo thugs, but this is a huge deal for us and we're proud to have them on our side. Thanks to The Crosby, the people who work night and day for the little rugrats, and all of you who've supported us throughout.

Happy Summer Sauce Everybody... And what's Summer without a bit of the shaking of rumps, huh?! This Thursday we celebrate the 3 year anniversary of Dance Right, the DTLA Club Phenom, with Shepard Fairey, DJ Pubes and guest DJ, Thee Mike B. I had a chance to interview Matt Goldman and Pubes, reminiscing on the last 3 years of DR. This is what they had to say...

    Me: So... 3 years, huh?

    Matt: Yup!

    Me: Wow.

    Pubes: Wooooo.. (slow fade out)

    Matt: Wee!

Me: Alrighty, This concludes our interview...

Pretty Dang Exciting if you ask me. So be sure to head out and celebrate with us! Flyer Below...

This Friday at OBEY Radio we're proud to host the 2nd Annual Stones Throw Records Showcase featuring Dam-Funk (Funkmosphere, LA) & Jamie Strong (The Do Over). Dam-Funk, revered as the sultan of 80's boogie returns to the Crosby to play new and old classics from his audio artillery... he is absolutely one of our favorite DJ's and Producers out in the West Coast. Be sure to cop his new EP, Toeachizown Vol. 1 LAtrik here! Along side Mr. Funk is none other than Jamie Strong, co-founder of The Do Over and a great music selector as well. Don't sleep this Friday...

Car club plaques date back more than 65 years and serve up a rich graphic history. The art of casting each plaque and hand painting the finish is still done today by a select few artisans. We worked with long time friend Chopper Dave www.loudfastrules.com to develop a piece unique to OBEY. Each plaque is cast aluminum, 8" tall x 12" wide, hand painted and features a wall mount and table top stand. Check the history and art that inspired www.relicsandrods.com

The plaques are web exclusive and very limited so PICK ONE UP while you can!

  • Casey O!

Facebook is a real time suck and its generally sort of lame but every once in awhile it brings you back to people with whom you've lost touch.  One of these reunions for me is with the lovely and gifted Casey O'Connell.

I met Casey a really long time ago when we were in school and we both still surfed a lot.  These days she is living in Lake Tahoe, painting and eating pink jelly beans.

    Q & A with Casey...
    Born and raised... Gainesville, FL
Favorite record...Feel Good Lost, Broken Social Scene
Listening to right now...Alaska in Winter
    Favorite food...Anything BBQ'd
    Favorite drink...Anything with bubbles
Inspired by...moving- by car or plane or boat, by walking but not running, while listening to music that is somehow absolutely perfect for the moment.
Can't live without...loved ones and blank canvases.

Casey painted room #405 in the Hotel des Arts in San Francisco.  She is sweet like pie.

Good friend of OBEY and talented designer, the infamous AAA, Alex Aranovich, has hit these newfangled interwebs with his salute to MJ. He did these back in '02 for 2K and figured this is the time to bring them back. All hail the king of pop!

Yo! Good Morning America loves it.
